Tahawal Serrekunda, a youth-led organization in Serrekunda, has called on young people of the country to refrain from using intoxicated drugs, especially “Kush”.

The objective of the new organization is to participate in both community and national development causes.

Cherno Jallow, the interim chairperson of the organization, challenged young people to partake in the cause of drug-free social advocacy.

“We are advocating for a society that is conscious, drug-free, active, and a society that contributes to the development of the nation,” he said. “The match pass is geared towards strengthening our advocacy about Kush, weed, harsh, alcohol, and cigarette because they are causing a lot of menace in our communities. These substances are heavily infiltrating our society, so we, as young people, must take the lead in the advocacy to discourage their use by raising alarm,” Jallow added.

He urged everyone to engage family members, congregation, and further advance the cause in the markets and everywhere that can help send out the voice of sensitization against the menace.

Honorable Musa Cham, National Assembly Member for Serrekunda, enjoined the government to suspend some border activities for a period of time.

“The government should set a moratorium at the borders so that internally we can regulate ourselves for a considerable period of time while we discuss our way forward to protecting our family from these drugs. Every development should impact the lives and livelihood of citizens in the country. Development is not only about cosmetic development,” he suggested.

He urged for a more formal sensitization about the menace of drugs in our society by the government.

Hon. Cham calls for proper regulatory systems in public spaces for proper advocacy realization.

“When you go to the nightclubs, you see children smoking and drinking alcohol. Supermarkets are also not regulated. Children can buy intoxicants freely, and anyhow, they like. Where are the regulations?” he questioned.

He added that the minister of interior and the vice president said the enforcement of regulations is the problem. He hinted that more police officers should be recruited in the system to enroll in enforcement of regulations.
