Gambian Students in Uniform No Longer Queue to Welcome Foreign Leader- YunusSilla

Mr. Yunus Silla, Proprietor of Yunus English Schools stated that Gambian student’s no longer line -up at the Banjul International Airport to welcome foreign leaders and dignitaries coming to the country.

Speaking at his school’s 10th graduation ceremony, he said that students are no longer ordered by the President to attend political rallies nor are they forced to stand under the hot boiling sun to welcome the President or other dignitaries.

For the 2023/2024 school year 10th graduation, Yunus English passed out four hundred and thirty-five (435) Grade 12 Students on Saturday at   Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center at Bijilo.

He called for a minute of silent prayers for the people of Palestine enclave regions of Gaza and West Bank who are under constant bombardment by the Israeli defense forces resulting in the deaths of more than 38, 000 people.

The graduation ceremony was also witnessed by passing out scores of pupils and students from the three Yunus English Schools located at Busumbala, Kotu East, and Jamwelly/SarePateh communities.

“As we all know, our school at Busumbala is close to the Banjul International Airport (BIA), we used to have verbal orders from the Government at that time to send our students to the airport whenever foreign leaders or dignitaries were coming to The Gambia or when there is a political rally in our area or even to stand on the Brikama highway to welcome the former President anytime is going or coming from Kanilai,” Mr.Silla recount.

He added that this has been changed by President AdamaBarrow in the education sector.

According to him, all these were affecting the teaching and learning processes in his schools and they are grateful to President Adama Barrow for stopping all these terrible activities which have completely disappeared.

Proprietor Silla also recognizes the love and support rendered by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) to Yunus English Schools over the past, while assuring the provision of a quality learning environment that can mold students to become productive citizens of the country.

Guest Speaker Lagamy Gumaneh charged the grandaunts of the Class OF 2024 to pursue further education that can better place them to serve society.

He urged the grandaunts, that individual skill, knowledge, and dreams will pave the way to their various successes in life.

Gumaneh, former President of University Students Union further advised the graduates to be more determined and prepare mentally for the challenge that lies ahead.

He told the outgoing student that there could be failures along the journey but one must be prepared to push ahead with more resilience and courage to become successful in life.

Other speakers at the ceremony include Chairman Basse Area Council, Muhammed Ceesay, Special Adviser to President Barrow, Momodou Sabally, Principal Yunus English School Busumbala,  and Lamin Tabally among other respectable dignitaries and personalities.

Many observers at the ceremony observed the high turnout of students, parents, and loved ones to grace the occasion, observing that the huge turnout surpassed any other graduation ceremony that ever occurred at the conference center.
