Ousman Jallow, chairman of Progressive Movement of the Gambia and yet-to-be-registered party leader of Gambia People’s Liberation Party (GPLP) sent a strong warning to President Adama Barrow against running for a third term presidential bid.Jallow said bidding for a third term in the presidency is against the ECOWAS democratic advisory committee on political stability.
Mr. Jallow came up with his warning during an interview with the Voice newspaper.
He urged President Barrow to follow examples that are clearly within the eyesight of every democratic political leadership both in Africa and the West.
“Macky Sall and Joe Biden’s decisions are a big message to Barrow. Let him follow those footsteps for the preservation of his dignity and avoid sending himself to exile after the presidency,” he remarked.
He forecasted that the 2026 election would be no different from what Gambia witnessed in 2016.
“Therefore, Gambia is for the Gambians. I am calling on every Gambian to make the best use of voter cards and vote wisely in 2026 to save the Gambia. Everybody has seen how the country is suffering due to the high cost of living in the Gambia,” Jallowlamented.
He called on citizens to choose the right leaders during elections to save the country from the suffering created by the current government that “valued loans than job creation.”
He also urged the government to work on developmental projects rather than giving promises that can’t be fulfilled.
