The officials of the Cement Importers and Traders Association (CITA) are today expected to meet the minister of trade and industry, credible sources informed this medium.
At the time of going to press, about 150 cement-laden trucks were stuck at the Keur Ayip side of the Gambia/Senegal border as the government intensified its restrive measures against the importation of bagged cement.
The government has increased the tax on bagged cement from D30 per bag to D180. CITA said this measure would kill their businesses. The government insists that it’s protecting local cement factories although no factory in The Gambia produces cement.
