The Federation of Gambia Muslim Youths (FEGAMY) held its annual Qur’anic and Speech Competition on Saturday at KotuSenior Secondary School. Students, youth volunteers, teachers, and parents attended the event, creating a day of intellectual exchange and celebration.

FEGAMY’s annual competition provides a platform for students from primary to tertiary institutions, alongside Islamic associations, to showcase their Qur’anic recitation skills and engage in discussions on contemporary issues.

Eleven schools, primarily from the Greater Banjul Area, participated in the Qur’anic competition. Alhagie Jallow from Omar Bun Khatab emerged victorious, followed by Zainab Colley from Latrikunda Upper & Senior and Alieu Saho from Nusrat Senior in second and third place respectively.

The speech competition saw participation from nine Senior Secondary Schools. Abubacar S Touray from Nusrat Senior claimed the top spot, with Saikou Lamin Senghore Kotu Senior and Maimuna Baldeh from Sheikh Hamdan Senior securing second and third place respectively.

A Youth Organisation category was also included, with five groups competing in the speech portion. Alhasan Bah from United Muslims secured the first position, followed by BintaSaho from Dawah Team in the second place, and Abdallah Ceesay from Hamsa Deen – Iqra in the third place. Other participants included the Muslim Students’ Association (MSA) of the University of The Gambia and the Islamic Students’ Association (ISA).

President of FEGAMY, Ibrahima Ceesay emphasised the role of the event in “encouraging career paths and strengthening connections among Muslim youths to pave the way for lives guided by Islamic teachings.”

In his closing remarks, Mr. Sarjo Jammeh, Coordinator of the FEGAMY Education Committee, commended all participants and congratulated the prizewinners. He reiterated FEGAMY’s commitment to “making the event a more meaningful and rewarding experience for all.”
