Group Seeks Permit to Stage Street March OverBarrow’s Death Remarks Against Darboe

A group, calling itself We Are Concerned has written to the Office of the Inspector General of Police, seeking a permit to stage a peaceful solidarity march over PresidentAdama Barrow’s death remarks against Lawyer OusainouDarboe, this medium has learned.

It would be recalled that President Barrow last Saturday told an inaugural ceremony in Brikama that he would vacate office only when Darboe dies and his bodyinterred.

The group said they would be forced onto the street to show solidarity with Darboe following President Barrow’s failure to recant his statement against the UDP leader.

“We hereby request a police permit for peaceful solidarity and Concern March for ANM Ousainou Darboe, following President Barrow’s failure to explain, apologize, and withdraw his strongly worded signed death contract oath made on the 27th of July 2024 Brikama, West Coast Region, against the person of ANM OusainouDarboe,” read the letter signed by Hagi Suwaneh.

The group intends to march from Westfield Monument to Pipeline “to show our solidarity and express our concerns about Mr. Darboe’s life to the Ministry of Interior”.

“We will also deliver a petition to both the Interior Ministry and the Independent Electoral Commission regarding President Adama Barrow’s alleged oath to remain president until Mr. Darboe’s death,” said the group in their letter to the police.

The gathering, according to the group, will start at noonand end at 4 pm on Wednesday,14 August 2024. It said ateam will deliver the petition to the IEC and the Ministry of Interior while the crowd will stop at Darboe’s compound in Pipeline.
