The Kombo South District Football final, which has seen two neighbouring villages of Tujerengand Tanji contesting for supremacy, has ended in a 2-2 score line forcing a replay.
The tournament is sponsored by APS, a Gambian-owned forex and Microfinance company.
The defending champions, Tanji opened the score in the 35th minute from the penalty spot when Dawda Badjie took on his marker and was eventually brought down in the box by LaminJadama.
The central referee, Fatoumata Jabang, was on the spot and awarded a penalty to Tanji. EnsaCamara took responsibility for his side and slotted the ball home for a 1 nill lead.
In a fascinating performance in response to Tanji’s lead, Tujereng advanced with compassion, and four minutes later, LaminJadama’s towering header leveled the scorelinefor Tujereng with barely six minutes before the break. The first half ended 1-1.
The play resumed with both sides showing more ambition and readiness to clinch the district’s coveted trophy.
Tujereng came closer to celebrating its first trophy of the APS sponsored under the watchful eyes of the current committee when the best player of the day for Tujereng headed the ball past Tanji’s netminder in the 83rd minute for a 2-1 lead.
Jubilant fans invaded the pitch, hoping to lay their hands on the trophy as the regulation time almost ended.
Tanji didn’t give it up as they kept attacking with the belief that it was still possible to retain that crown.
The dreams became reality in the 87th minute when a second penalty was awarded to them. This time, the substitute, Abdoulie Dibba, calmly put the ball in the net, and 2-2 the match ended.
