The Ministry of Industry, Regional Integration and Employment and Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) brainstormed on Gambia’s business development in a meeting on Tuesday in the GCCI office.

Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment Mr. Babucarr O. Joof, who paid a courtesy visit to the GCCI board and management, discussed strengthening ties between the government and the business community.

He said this was his first opportunity to meet the board of GCCI and have a conversation directly with them on issues that affect the business environment.

Minister Joof described GCCI as the most valuable partner and it represents its members in trade and industry and its importance in the private sector

According to the Minister, the meeting was centered on the recent developments between  Gambia and Senegal on goods crossing the border, collaboration between government and private sector, possibilities of improving market size, and other business factors.

For his part, the president of GCCI Mr. Edrissa Mass Jobe, explained how important the minister’s visit is to the institute.

“It is rather impromptu and was meant to be a courtesy call but ended up being a very fruitful, productive encounter. We have discussed a lot of issues that impact the private sector, issues of industrialization, we have also discussed issues related to trade,” he said.

He also noted that the Gambia’s trade with other African countries is all done by land.
