The Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC) elaborated on the mandates of the PSC among other things to Governor Lamin Saidykhan of the North Bank Region, the chiefs, and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) members in the region.
The Chairman of the PSC, Mr. Baboucarr Suwareh on day three of his institution’s interactive outreach to the offices of the Regional Governors and Executive Coordinators across the country disclosed that his visit with his team to the region was to inform them about his institution’s mandates also to hear from them their achievements and constraints within their various institutions.
“PSC is mandated under section 173 of the 1997 Constitution to recruit, promote, train, and discipline public officials within the public service. The Commission is also mandated to strengthen performance and facilitate effective and efficient service delivery,” the PSC Chairman emphasized to the host.
To achieve this task Mr. Suwareh went on, require an outreach program to identify issues, and constraints affecting or confronting public service institutions and the support they would need from the Public Service Commission.
According to Mr. Suwareh, the outreach will enable the Commission members to have first-hand information on issues affecting civil servants within their workplaces that would require the Commission’s involvement to address the situation.
“I’m impressed with the presence of all seven chiefs in NBR, although they (Chiefs) are not directly answerable to PSC vis-a-vis, they are a key partner to the Governor’s office. Their presence will add value to this meeting as they host the civil servants within their respective districts,” said the PSC Chairman.
Governor NBR, Mr. Lamin Saidykhan for his part, thanked the PSC Chairman for the laudable initiative, adding that his office mandates are to represent the President and Government in the region, responsible for monitoring all government projects and programs, and for connecting with other government institutions within this region in relations to issues of public interest.
Chiefs Alhaji Jagne Central Badibou, Malick Bouye SabachSanjally, and Fabala Kinteh Lower Badibou all lauded the PSC chairman and team’s visit to NBR as a landmark history.
