The Head Chief of Upper Badibou District in the North Bank Region has suggested to the authorities concern through the Public Service Commission (PSC) to introduce Regional District Authoritative Offices (RDAO) in all the five administrative regions in the country to ensure that the role of the traditional authority is modernized and in tune with current realities.
Speaking at a meeting held at the NBR Governor’s Office between the Public Service Commission (PSC) and NBR Governor’s staff on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in Kerewan, Alhaji Mustapha Dibba said “IF we (Chiefs) have RegionalDistrict Authoritative Office (RDAO) in all five regions in the country, it will help us (Chiefs) to ensure proper records keeping and by extension enhance facilitation of succession from one power holder to another.”
Chief Dibba lamented the lack of formal handing-over of office whenever one chief replaces another (is one of the issues affecting their performances in office) thus emphasizing that formal handing-over is key in their work because it will help them in their day-to-day work.
He applauded the PSC Chairman, Mr. Baboucarr Suwareh, Secretary to the PSC, Mr. Abdoulie Jafuneh, and Director of the Management Service Division (MSD) at PMO, Mr MomodouBah, for their timely visit to the Governor’s office.
Chief Dibba described the NBR Governor and staff as unifiers, adding that the Governor’s office did not left them (Chiefs) behind in any issues.
He, therefore, appealed to the PSC Chairman to conduct the outreach program periodically and throughout the country saying it will help to familiarise themselves with what civil servants are facing in their workplaces.
Deputy Governor of the North Bank Region Mr. DemboSamateh who had chaired the meeting described NBR TAC members and Chiefs in the region as people who make the region the best and unique.
However, at the meeting, all TAC members were allowed to highlight their institution’s achievements and constraints, while they made recommendations for them to improve their performance.
In response to the issues raised by the NBR TAC members, the chairman PSC promised to reach out to the relevant authorities so that their plights can be properly look into.
A similar engagement was held in the LRR where Commissioner Ganye K.Touray and Kemo Conteh led the team.
Chiefs George L. Sonko Lower Niumi, Momodou Chatty Cham Upper Nuimi, and Alpha Mariama Khan Jokadou hailed PSC and PMO officials for the initiative. NBR-TAC members during the meeting also highlighted their offices achievements and constraints before PSC and PMO officials.
