Tujereng VDC PRO Refutes Allegation of Sand Mining

By: Nicholas Bass

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Tujereng Village Development Committee (TVDC), Lamin Bojang, has dismissed as untrue the allegation against the TVDCthat it was mining sand along the Tujereng coast, generating two million Dalasi in the process.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with this reporter, Bojang said that GACH did not give any area to TVDC to mine to the tune of D2M, stating that TVDC has no license to mine white sand for Tujereng’s development.

”There is no revenue of two million Dalasi from the purported mining area for it does not exist,” PRO Bojang said.

However, Bojang disclosed that sometime in 2022,TVDC engaged GACH for an agreement to mine black sand within its jurisdiction and this was finalized in October 2022.

Bojang stated that when TVDC engaged GACH to support its development, GACH gave them 45 trips of white sand that enabled the VDC to generate income to buy furniture for the village’s lower, upper, and senior secondary schools.

Bojang pointed out that the income generated from the45 trips of white sand enabled the VDC to build a structure at the village’s Quranic   Junior Secondary School among other developments at the village’shealth center.

He explained that GACH paid a royalty of one million and fifty thousand Dalasis to pre-finance the projects of TVDC, stating that GACH paid one million five hundred thousand Dalasis to TVDC as a royalty fund.

”GACH shall pay TVDC D25 on each cubic meter of white sand transported,” Bojang said.

Meanwhile, Bojang said that GACH shall rehabilitate their area of mining at Tujereng as per their agreement.
