The Director of Health Services, Momodou Nyassi, has said the medical test conducted on a suspected Mpoxcase last weekend had returned negative.
“The patient was at Kanifing General Hospital. We were notified and we engaged the medical expert team which later transferred the patient to the EFSTH,where the test was conducted,” Nyassi disclosed in an interview with this medium.
He explained that the individual suspected of carrying the virus had no travel history outside the country.
The health services director said that there was no cause for panic.
He stated that as part of their preventative measures, the ministry shared a case definition form with all the regional hospitals to assist the medical experts to identify and handle cases.
Director Nyassi further explained that the identified isolation centers that were used during the COVID-19pandemic exist in all the hospitals, adding that the centres would be utilized if there are suspected cases.
He advised the greater public to exercise vigilance and reduce body contact, adding that the health ministry is vigilant and had already strengthened the national surveillance system to promptly detect and respond to any case.
“We are working with the African CDC, WHO andWAHO to respond to any cases. We are working to enhance surveillance, cross border collaboration, public awareness campaign, preparedness, and response plans,” he added.
Mr. Nyassi advised the public to remain calm, adhere to guidelines, and report any suspected case to the nearest health center.
