The Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG), OusmanSaidybah, has disclosed that 81 Gambians, five Senegalese, four Sierra Leoneans, two Nigerian, two Portuguese, one Conakry Guinea national, one Moroccan, one British and one American national were arrested for alleged drug trafficking last month.
Speaking in an interview with this reporter, PRO Saidybahrevealed that DLEAG seizure statistics have shown that 98suspects, including Alleged Child Offenders (ACO) for drug-related offenses, were arrested last month.
He further revealed that the agency seized significant quantities of Cannabis Sativa, hashish, skunk, ecstasy, methamphetamine, kush, and a new Amphetamine Type Stimulant (ATS) known as molly.
Commenting on the quantities of drugs seized, Saidybah disclosed that within one month, DLEAG seized over 100 kilograms of cannabis, more than 200 pills of ecstasy, and significant quantities of kush and other types of drugs.
Speaking on the situational report of last week, PRO Saidybah explained that DLEAG’s operational regimes focus on supply-suppression and drug-demand reduction programs and activities for the above-mentioned reporting period.
He stated that 19 accused persons, who were involved in 17 cases, have been apprehended, stating that the accused persons are males, including an Alleged Child Offender (ACO); a Senegalese national, who claimed to be 16 years old.
He revealed that 16 of the accused persons are Gambianswhile two hailed from Senegal and another from Sierra Leone.
