Following his indictment for stealing electrical materials from Bakoteh Annex Lower Basic School, one EbrimaKamara was arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to answer two-count charges of stealing.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Kebbeh, alleged that Kamara on or about 14 August 2024, at Bakoteh Annex Lower Basic School in the Kanifing Municipality stole electrical wires fixed in eight classrooms. The wires werevalued at D27,000.00.
On count two, Kamara is alleged to have willfully and unlawfully damaged 18 pieces of fluorescent lamps, ninepieces of two gang, a two-way switch and 40 pieces of electrical conduit at Bakoteh Annex Lower Basic School,all valued at D37,000.00.
When the charge sheet was read to him, he admitted guilt on count one but denied any criminal responsibility for count two.
Narrating the facts of count one, Inspector Kebbehexplained that Kamara was spotted at a far distance by teachers Babucarr Fatty and Salieu Sabally, holding electrical wires. The prosecution narrated that the two men saw Kamara leaving the school following which they noticed that he stole electrical wires from eight classrooms. Inspector Kebbeh said the duo informed the school authorities and a criminal complaint was subsequently lodged with the police at Bakoteh station, who advised them to call them whenever they set eyes on Kamara.
According to the prosecution, Baboucarr Fatty encountered Kamara in the streets the next day and informed the police. The police, Inspector Kebbeh stated,went to the school, got Kamara arrested and took him to Bakoteh police station, where he confessed to stealing electrical wires in eight classrooms.
The case, presided over by Magistrate Thomas Touray, resumes on 23rd September, for judgment.
