The Minister of Justice and Attorney General Hon. DawdaJallow divulged at a Ministry of Information organized press conference yesterday at the Sir Dawda Kairaba International Conference that the appointment of Judges and Chief Justices will not be subjected to National Assembly confirmation.
“That’s the position of the government that has been our way of governance since independence, we have never subjected our judicial appointments to National Assembly confirmation and it’s working well for us, and the government is of the position that is what is best suited for the situation. So the appointment of judges including Chief Justice will not be subjected to National Assembly confirmation,” he emphasized.
Justice Minister confirmed that “most of the appointments subjected to National Assembly confirmation whether is judicial officers, cabinet ministers, and other government agencies, have been removed, the National Assembly confirmation process have been removed”.
He said this in response to the removal of the National Assembly’s participation in the appointments of the government officials which was catered for in the 2020 draft constitution but not included in the 2024 re-gazetted draft constitution.
