Accused in possession of firearms appears in court

Buba Sabally charged with having firearms Thursday appeared in Kanifing Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate SallahM’bai.

The accused was charged with offence of having firearms contrary to the laws of The Gambia 2009.

His particular offence read that Buba Sabally on the 25th day of August 2024 at Westfield in the Kanifing Municipal Council had in his possession a firearm, a black revolver pistol with a mark Sprint pat. pend without authority, thereby committing an offence. 

The accused denied this allegation preffered against him when it was read to him in a local language he understood. 

Meanwhile, the prosecution officer Inspector N. Bojangobjected to his bail saying it was a serious case under investigation and that the firearms needed to be tested, citing that a bail for the accused could make him escape from court.

Notwithstanding, the accused claimed it was a mistake that he took the firearms from a little kid and that he knew nothing about it. He continued that a soldier called him and asked him what was inside his pocket and that it was then he removed it and gave it to the soldier who then took him to the police station.

However, “I’m begging the court to grant me bail because I’m not feeling well, the very day the incident happened I was about to go for treatment because I’m having spiritual sickness,” he pleaded.

Nevertheless, Magistrate Sallah M’bai ordered his remand at Mile II Central Prison till the adjournment date of 9th September 2024
