The Gambia Police Force’s investigation into the mysterious death of a teenager at Demba Kunda in the Upper River Region has unveiled that Kamo Hydara had confessed to killing the late Demba.
“Following investigations into the death of 14-year-old Yusuf Samareh, the police confirm that out of the three individuals arrested, Kamo Hydara has confessed to the murder,” the police investigation uncovered.
According to the police, the investigation was opened when a district hospital reported the matter to them.
“The Basse Police investigated the mysterious death of 14-year-old Yusuf Samareh from Demba Kunda. The investigation was launched after the Basse District Hospital reported the teenager’s death to the police upon his arrival at the facility,” the police stated in a statement on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
It disclosed that the victim had possibly suffered physical abuse as per the medical evidence extracted from the examination made of the dead body.
“Preliminary medical examinations suggest that Yusuf may have been a victim of physical abuse, as signs of torture were evident on his body,” the police revealed.
The police further said in the released statement that three individuals from Demba Kunda are, currently, assisting the police with the ongoing investigation.
“The police are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute any suspects involved in this tragic incident,” the statement assured.
Notwithstanding, the statement further clarified that Hydaraadmitted to taking the life of the boy.
“During interrogation, Hydara admitted to taking the boy to an uncompleted building, where he beat him to death, claiming he was disciplining him for being disobedient,” the police statement further informed.
The release continued: “The investigation continues, with efforts to recover the weapon used in the assault. Hydara will face due process of law.”
The police reminded the public that any form of child abuse is a criminal offence.
