The Gambia senior national team, on Monday, began its training session for the Africa Cup of National in Casablanca, Morocco.
The senior Scorpions will play Comoros on Wednesday, 4 September 2024, before facing Tunisia on Sunday.
Jonathan McKinstry is given the task of qualifying the scorpions to Africa’s biggest competition.
His predecessor, Tom Saint Fait, has qualified the team for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, respectively.
Tom, now with the Mali national team, recorded the best finish ever for The Gambia in international competition when the team suffered a 2-0 defeat in the hands of the host nation, Cameroon, in the quarter-finals of the 2022 AFCON.
The challenges to The Gambia’s senior national, including but not limited to an approved football ground as per the CAF requirements, both games will be played outside the Gambia, Morocco where the country chose to play its home matches.
There haven’t been any injury worries in the team camp currently at Casablanca.
If the team is able to qualify, this will be the third AFCON qualifications in a row for the senior Scorpions.
