Two accused to be remanded in Mile II Prison as case transferred to High Court

Two accused, Kebba Camara and Adama Ceesay were on Wednesday, 3rd September 2024 arraigned before Magistrate Sallah M’bai of the Kanifing Magistrate Court for robbery with violence at Kololi in Kanifing Municipality.

Meanwhile, the accused were ordered to be remanded at Mile II Central Prison by Magistrate Sallah M’bai pending their arrangement of the case in the High Court.

Kebba Camara and Adama Ceesay, according to the particular of their offence on or about the 30th day of June 2024 at Kololi in the Kanifing Municipal Council used a broken bottle and a knife to rob Oscar Ochuonu and obtained the following items from him, An amount of D30,000.00, Samsung Galaxy valued at D5,500.00, A Techno smartphone valued at D6,00.00, Apple ear set valued D1,500.00 totaling D93,100.00 – being the properties of the said Oscar Ochuonu.

However, the two accused denied the charges pressed against them when it was read in local languages they understood. 

Therefore, the prosecution B. Boye who announced her appearance for IGP applied under section 62 of the criminal procedure code for the accused persons to be remanded pending their arrangement of the case before the High Court has section 208[A] of the criminal procedure code of the legal notice number 3 of 2009. 

She noted that the AG created the special criminal division of the High Court to deal with capital offences. 

The application of the prosecution granted by the court, as Magistrate Sallah M’bai applied under section 99 of the Criminal Procedure Code, “I, here remanded the accused persons at mile 2 central prison pending of their arrangement. I, hereby, order the case to be transferred to the High Court for judgment.
