Visa Agent Faces Fraud Charges in Court

Gibril Krubally yesterday appeared before Magistrate K.B Sambou of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining money by false pretence from three individuals promising them visas to Europe.

The accused was charged with obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 288 of the criminal code of The Gambia, 2009.

The indictment alleges that the accused sometime in January 2024 at Sukuta Nema in Kombo Central, West Coast Region of The Republic of The Gambia by false pretense and with intent to defraud obtained money from Edward Manga in the sum of D246, 400.00, Gabou Mendy in the sum of D246, 400.00 and Njaga Njie the sum of D241, 000.00. The total of D733,800.00with the pretext that he could secure European visas for them respectively, which representation he knew was untrue or false.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

DSP Buteh Sawaneh sought an adjournment to enable him to secure its witnesses to the matter and didn’t raise an objection to the bail of the accused.

The court granted the application made by the prosecution while the accused was granted bail in the sum of D800,000. 00 with two Gambian sureties who shall depose to an affidavit of means.

The matter resumes on the 2nd of October 2024.
