Zamalek accelerate negotiations for ex-Premier League winger

Zamalek is speeding up negotiations to sign Gambian winger Modou Barrow, who has been deemed surplus to requirements at Saudi club Al Ahli.

Barrow has caught the eye of Zamalek manager José Gomes, who sees the 31-year-old as a versatile option for the squad. Primarily a left winger, Barrow can also play as a second striker or on the right wing if needed.

The Gambian international has spent much of his career in England, featuring for clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Swansea City, Reading, Leeds United, and Blackburn Rovers.

Barrow has more than 50 Premier League appearances to his name during his time with Swansea while also featuring 90 times in the EFL Championship with Reading.

He also had spells in Turkey with Denizlispor and Sivasspor, and in South Korea with Jeonbuk Hyundai.

However, Barrow hasn’t played an official game since January after Sivasspor cut his loan spell short and Al Ahli left him out of their squad.

It’s believed that Zamalek boss Jose Gomes is keen on the player, while the board wants to sign Polish winger Konrad Michalak from Saudi second-division side Ohodinstead.

Zamalek’s board is expected to reach a final decision in the upcoming few hours to register their new signings ahead of the transfer deadline day.
