The Gambia Police Force gathered for a remembrance parade in honour of the victims of the Sukuta-Jabang Traffic Light shooting, on Thursday, 12th of September 2023.
Modou Musa Sisawo, Public Relations Officer, Gambia Police Force, said the fallen heroes died serving the interests of the nation.
“We gathered here today to remember our gallant heroes, PC 8220 Pateh M. Jallow and PC 8466 Sang P. Gomez, who paid the ultimate price in the service of their country, on 12th September 2023. At approximately 21:00 hours, a single male assailant armed with a 9mm caliber Makarov Pistol alighted from a black BMW car and fired eight(8) rounds at our now-deceased colleagues at point-blank range. The same assailant shot a third officer who miraculously survived. We are profoundly grateful to Allah for sparing our colleague Sergeant 8839 Ansey Jawo’s life,” he emotionally stated during the remembrance parade held at the Banjulinding Anti-Crime Headquarters on Thursday 12th September 2024.
He further added that Constable Jallow and Gomez dressed up in their smart police uniforms, bid farewell to their families, and left their houses in good spirits to serve the nation. It was a normal day like any other day.
“We at the Gambia Police Force will continue to remember them in our prayers for as long as we live. Today is exactly one year since their passing. In line with service tradition, we will hold such remembrance parades to honour them for their commendable service to the people of the Gambia.”
He, therefore, called Gambians to remember the fallen heroes and pray for their gentle souls to find eternal rest.
Pateh Jallow, Commissioner of the Police Anti-Crime Unit, assured the families of fallen heroes of the continued support of GPF.
“We acknowledge that no words can fill the void of your loss. Your loved ones were not only heroes in uniform but cherished members of your families, and we stand with you in solidarity and support for eternity,” he expressed in the respect of the fallen PIU officers.
