Alleged Visa Racketeer Lands in Court

An alleged visa racketeer Omar Jawara was on Wednesday arraigned before Magistrate Nben Faal of the KanifingMagistrates’ Court for an alleged offence of obtaining money by pretence.

The accused was alleged to have deceitfully obtained over D310,000 from one Jean Ndong of Kerr Seringn on the pretext of helping him obtain an Australian visa and an airline ticket.

He denied any criminal liability when the charge was read to him.

However, to enable him to gain his liberty as the case proceeds, he was granted bail in the sum of D200,000 in like sum. He must also provide two sureties, who possess ID cards as well as produce an affidavit of means.

Inspector B. Fatty represented the Inspector General of Police whilst the accused had no legal representation.
