Dutch National Denies Drug Trafficking Charges

A Dutch national Sergio Rafael Gomez De Carvalho Alfredo has denied the charge of drug trafficking.

Alfredo was allegedly found in possession of cocaine at the Banjul International Airport and was arraigned at the BrikamaMagistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate K.B Sambou.

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia was represented by Nicholas N. Jammeh whilst the accused was unrepresented by any legal counsel. 

Alfredo was charged with aggravated drug trafficking contrary to Section 43A (1) of the Drug Control (Amendment) Act, 2010 and punishable under Section 43 (A) of the Drug Control (Amendment) Act, 2011, respectively.

The prosecution alleged that Alfredo on or about 8 July 2024, at the Banjul International Airport and diverse places in the West Coast Region of the Republic of The Gambia, had in his possession six parcels of cocaine, weighing 5kg and 400g.

It was also alleged that the suspect on or about 8 July 2024, at the Banjul International Airport and diverse places in the West Coast Region of the Republic of The Gambia, was arrested while dealing in 5kg and 400g of cocaine.

The case resumes on 7 October 2024, for the commencement of hearing.
