Preparations are in high gear as The Gambia prepares to host the 8th Annual ECOWAS Heads of Immigration Meeting slated for the 23rd and 24th September 2024.
Bai Ebrima Mboob the Director General of Gambia Immigration Department [GID] made this known to newsmen during a press conference organized by GID on Wednesday 18 September 2024 at Immigration Headquarters in Banjul.
‘’This meeting has been conducted or held in other countries but the Gambia is hosting it for the first time’’. He noted.
‘’We are grateful to the Office of The President through the Cabinet Secretary for Providing us with support which will enable us showcase Gambian hospitality to our esteemed guests’’.
The theme of this year’s meeting is Acceleration of the Development of the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card and the abolition of the 90 days stay limit on residents are met.
Director General added that ‘’in 2011 , there was a Heads of State agreement on the adoption of the Biometric National Identity Card ,and for that reason the Gambia will started implementing it, supporting security within the sub region’’.
