KEPT project manager testifies before Local Government Commission of Inquiry

Lamin Sanyang the former Director of Service and current Project Manager of the Kanifing Environmental Transformation Program (KETP), on Wednesday, 18th September testified before the Local Government Commission of Inquiry (LGCI).

In his testimony, he said he was the Director of Serivce at the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) from 2018 to 2022.

Despite of no more being the Director of Service at the council “I still provide technical advice to the department,” he said.

Meanwhile, in his testimony, he said he was redeployed (from his position) as the Budget Manager for Kanifing Environmental Transformational Program (KETP). 

“In 2018, I was asked to submit my CV to the interim management committee, they called me while I was in the field monitoring exercise as the Regional Community Development Officer”, he explained.

He was asked by the lead counsel, Patrick Gomez, about how they knew if he was interested in the position. He responded that he didn’t know because he was not told that.

“I was not interviewed my CV was sent to the Ministry and they wrote my appointment” letter, he told the Commission.

 

More so, he said he was not aware of any advertisement or any other applicant for the position apart from him.

He went on to explain that the KETP project is a three-year project funded by the EU.

“The overall objective is to enhance the environmental living standard of residents of the municipality, it has three components –  Waste Management, Education, and Tree planting,” he said.

He said with the project, they have a project director, Project Manager, 

three components officer, and “As the director of service, I was responsible for coordinating and implementing policy related to environment and sanitation matters as well as community service.”
