Alleged Shop Breakers Docked

One Fallou Tunkara was yesterday, Tuesday 24thSeptember 2024, arraigned before Magistrate Thomas Touray of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for two counts of shop breaking and stealing.

According to the particulars of the offence, FallouTunkara on or about the 18 September 2024, at Senegambia in the Kanifing Municipality, broke into the shop of one Muhammed El Massir with intent to commit a felony therein-to wit-stealing, thereby committed an offence. 

Fallou also stands accused of stealing two Samsung mobile phones each worth D10,000 and cash of D105,000; all properties of Mohammed El Massir.

He pleaded not guilty when the charge sheet was readand interpreted to him.

‘’I didn’t enter that shop and I didn’t even reach that place. I stopped at the checkpoint, “ he told the court.

The prosecuting officer Inna Jallow, at his juncture,applied for an adjournment to secure witnesses and but applied for the denial of bail to the accused, arguing that Fallou Tunkara is a habitual offender.

“Just two weeks ago, he was released from court and on that very day, he committed another offence. In that circumstance, if the accused is granted bail by the Honorable court, he might commit another offence,’’ the prosecutor stressed.

He was nonetheless admitted to bail in the sum of D50,000 and must provide Gambian sureties.

The case resumes on October 8th.

In a related development, one Ismalia Camara wasbrought before Magistrate Thomasi Touray for two counts of shop breaking and stealing.

Ismaila was alleged on count one to have on or about 30 August 2024, at Kololi New Road in the KanifingMunicipality, broke into the shop of one Baye Sallah with intent to commit a felony therein- to wit-stealing. He was accused of stealing 35 pieces of watches valued at D5,000.00 each , 20 pairs of shoes valued atD2,000 each, eight pairs of sport shoes valued at D6,000 each, 10 pieces of jeans each valued at D1,500, 14 T-shirts each valued at D1000, five boxers shorts valued D2000 each, five metres of Getzner valued at D5,000, cash of D20,000 , five cups valued at D5000 , 12 pieces of boxers valued at D2,400 ,12 pieces of singlets valued atD2,400,  being the properties of Bai Sallah

However, the accused said he only took six watches,four jeans and some boxers.
