The Makane Inter-Cultural Organisation (MICO) last Saturday 21 September, 2024 held a one-day community training forum at Kinderdorff Bottrop Technical Upper Basic and Senior Secondary School, Brikama.
Among other issues, participants discussed, shared ideas, and conducted a community-building and enhancing peace activity on how to use different cultural resources to create, promote, and live a peaceful, fulfilling, harmonious, and cohesive life within the family, “our communities and society,” Mariama Khan, the president and coordinator of MICO explained.
She noted “MICO consists of two main initiatives, the ArdaJumboo and the Senegambia Observatory Forum. ArdaJumboo seeks to revive some eroding traditional Gambian art forms, which in the past played important roles in promoting social peace, harmony, and tolerance in Gambian society.”
She added that it fosters linguistic competency in the indigenous languages of The Gambia by encouraging the use of local languages to channel different forms of artistic expression.
The Senegambia Observatory Forum, she said, promotes harmonious inter-state relations between The Gambia and Senegal.
MICO is a non-profit inter-cultural, inter-generational leadership, mediation, and educational organization that promotes tolerant civil engagement, and a peaceful, harmonious, just, and cohesive society. The association was founded in 2018 and conducted training for the youth on the values of intercultural engagement, inter-generational and knowledge-based leadership, good character and conduct, empathy, and honest service in society.
