Four Nigerians Bag Leadership Roles At USET

The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) announced that four Nigerian professors have been appointed to key positions at The Gambia’s University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET).

Yusuf Yakub, NTAC’s Director-General, made the announcement during a visit from Gambia’s Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, Prof. Pierre Gomez, in Abuja.

The appointment of the professors followed the recommendations of a task force established by the Gambian Ministry’s Governing Council, which assessed the contributions of these volunteers.

The four professors include:

Prof. Nazmat Surajudeen-Bakinde as Vice-Chancellor

Prof. Yusuf Abdulfatah as Vice-Chancellor (Academics)

Prof. Akinlabi Oyetunji as Director, Research and Grants

Prof. David Gundu as Director, Academic Planning and Quality Assurance

These positions were vacated with the end of the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Owusu-Ofori.

The appointment highlights the strong relationship between Nigeria and The Gambia, particularly in education and technical cooperation, facilitated by the TAC scheme, which has deployed over 12,000 Nigerian professionals to The Gambia since 1987.
