The Society for the Study of Women’s Health (SSWH) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) have recently donated some drugs to the Chamen Minor Health Centre, Nianija in the Central River Region north in the North Bank Region (NBR).
The donation was under its project called Shifting Gender Norms for Improved Maternal Health, and this is with the expressed aim of improving maternal health and access to maternal health services.
Presenting the drugs on behalf of SSWH, Muhammed Jobe, Research and Training Coordinator at SSWH described the donation of the medicament as crucial in promoting the health of women and children. He noted that SSHW and its partner are very much committed to the prevention of pregnancy complications during childbirth.
Jobe disclosed that the presentation is the second of its kind to Chamen Minor Health Centre and Bakadaji Health Post in Nianija to ease access to essential drugs by pregnant and lactating mothers.
He disclosed that the donated drugs worth over D132,000while thanking IDRC for their immense contribution to strengthening and enhancing community resilience building on reproductive health and in overcoming critical complications on or before birth.
Gibi Cham, alkalo of Chamen Nianija, Sainey S TunkaraCommunity Health Nurse, and the focal person at ChamenNianija circuit described the support as important and that it would complement good service delivery.
Sainey S Tunkara highlights their need at the health center as their needs remain a challenge to the center.
Lamin Jaiteh, Officer-In-Charge of Chamen Minor Centre underscored the importance of the donation, noting that the drugs are very much needed at the facility. He said the support would complement the effort of the Ministry of Health in the quest to provide quality health care.
He noted that the facility is the only Minor Health Centre in Nianija as a result, more support is needed to facilitate good service delivery in the form of equipment, materials, and solarization of labour ward to enhance safe delivery.
