Gambia People’s Liberation Party and current African Youth Union president Ousman Jallow has called on President Adama Barrow to respect the ethics of journalism as a cornerstone of democratic governance.
Jallow urged Barrow to reconsider and withdraw his legal case against The Voice newspaper, regarding reported political affiliations between him and Muhammed Jah of Q-Group.
“In a truly democratic society, freedom of expression, inquiry, and dialogue must prevail over everything,” he asserted in an exclusive interview with The Voice on Tuesday.
He added that President Barrow has the sovereign right to choose his successors and forge alliances that align with his vision for the nation.
“However, true leadership transcends personal interests; it is about uniting rather than dividing. Let not adversaries drive a wedge between you and those who stand as your staunch defenders and supporters in the quest for progress and justice,” he advised.
He further urged the President to respect the ethics and principles of journalism, embrace transparency, and constructive dialogue that will inspire trust and resilience among the Gambian populace.
“The choices we make today will shape our tomorrow, empowering us to cultivate a nation where every voice is heard and every opinion valued. Let us stand together in the spirit of unity and progress, advocating for a future where democracy flourishes, and the principles of respect and dignity guide our interactions,” stated Jallow.
He pointed out the country is at a critical juncture as it navigates the evolving landscape of Gambian politics.
“Barrow’s tenure is heralded as an era of democratic resurgence, marked by greater freedom of expression, a vibrant civil discourse, and a shared hope for brighter future, qualities that should be cherished and protected,” he observed.
