Darboe Calls for More Resilient, Cohesive UDP

By: Kemo Kanyi

Ousainu Darboe, leader of the opposition United Democratic Party, has called on UDP militants to focus on maintaining unity within the party “at this crucial time”.

Darboe made these remarks at a recent UDP Diaspora engagement in the US.

He said that every true UDP militant should positively translate this message for proper digestion because the party does not need any separate factions.

The veteran politician added: ‘’The time has come for us to amplify our message of unity as true UDP militants. The message is that UDP needs cohesion and unity in everything we do. We do not need any factions within the UDP. The founding fathers of the United Democratic Party only preached about unity. This has been the direction of the party since its inception. Now, we are hearing different things. Why is it that something that has never been directed towards founding fathers like Amadou Sanneh, Femi Peters and others is now been directed towards TalibBensouda, Rohey Malick Lowe and other young people of the party? This is not the UDP we know.’’

Lawyer Darboe maintained that every party militant has the right to show interest in party’s leadership position but that due process should be followed.

‘’Let us be patient, let us not be our own obstacles to success,’’ he advised the UDP militants.

Darboe further advised the young people of the UDP to stand up to the task of maintaining the good reputation of the party.

The UDP leader admonished that ‘’any negative comment directed towards Talib Bensouda or RoheyMalick Lowe is also negative towards the United Democratic Party”.

“Stop doing such in order for the maintenance of the party’s reputation,’’ he cautioned.
