NDMA’s Assessment Team to Visit Flood-Affected Rice Fields Friday

By: Momodou Justice Darboe

The Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), Mr. SannaDahaba, will be at the head of an assessment mission to rice fields that were severely affected by flooding.

Recent flooding in the central and upper river regions have reportedly inundated rice fields, causing crop losses.

An assessment team from the State disaster management agency will travel to the affected fields on Friday to establish the magnitude of the floods.

The primary objective of this assessment, according to Mr. Dahaba, is to provide timely disaster relief.

“From last week’s rains, we understand that some rice fields have been submerged. Sutukoba, Kosemar and some part of JahallyPacharr were affected,” he added.

He pointed out that the NDMA was not able to establish the economic cost of the flood.

“Currently, we could not determine the economic value in terms of loss. This is why I want to go to the provinces so that we engage the ministry of agriculture to be able to quantify the damage for us. That would determine the economic loss as far as NDMA is concerned,” explained Mr. Dahaba.

“After the assessment, we will engage the government and partners to support the victims because livelihood is very important as far as disaster response are concerned. Our primary objective here, as government and partners, is to provide timely disaster relief,” he added.
