7 Electricians Electrocuted-Reports

By: Arret Jatta

Seven electricians were reportedly electrocuted on Wednesday evening as they attempted to replace an old electric pole in Kerr Galo in the North Bank Region.

However, at the time of writing this story, NAWEC could not give the exact number of the electrocuted or the cause of the electrocution.

It was reported in some media outlets that the electricians were NAWEC staff but the company’s PRO Pierre Sylva told The Voice that the deceased worked with a company called KEI, which was contracted by the Gambia Electricals in a NAWEC/World Bank project.

The Communications Officer at NAWEC, Buba Badjie, also said that the dead were not NAWEC employees but workers of a subcontractor involved in the project.

NAWEC’s emergency coordination team was reportedly despatched to the North Bank to assess the situation at the accident site.

The Barra police reported on Wednesday that they received a report of “an incident at Kerr Gallo, involving seven NAWEC staff, who are believed to have died from an electric shock while working on or erecting an electric pole”.

“The police are currently at the scene to investigate and determine the circumstances, leading to this tragic event,” the police said.
