Four Deny Allegation of Involvement in Yundum ‘Burglary’

Four men were on Monday paradedbefore the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for their alleged involvement in a shop-break-in in Yundum but they denied the allegation.

The quartet was charged with conspiracy, stealing and break-in. 

Lamin Marr, Bakary Kebba Saidy, Assan Jammeh and Lamin Fofana will now undergo trial for allegedly conspiring among themselves on 12 September 2024, at New Yundum village, Kombo North, West Coast Region, and broke into a shop of one Babucarr Ndong and stole three packets of laundry soap valued at D975, 20-litre gallon of oil valued at D1,950, 5-litre gallon of oil valued at D650, one bucket of mayonnaise valuedat D1,300, one bag of onion valued at D1,100, simple phone valued at D750 andpairs of scissors valued at D200. 

The court heard that D6,925 worth of items were recovered by the police but four bottles of Mutada valued at D600, mentholated balm valued at D120, garden seeds valued at D250, Nescafe valued at D550, a bag of “Omo” valued at D850, a packet of tea valued at D150, a machine blender valued at D2,500, half carton of mosquito coil valued at D925, half carton of sardine valued at D775, one and a half carton of tin milk valued at D1,650, a carton of toilet soap valued at D1,450, biscuits valued at D350, GMD coins valued at D300, China green tea valued at D925, a packet of toothbrush valued at D300, six pieces of Santex soap valued at D360, two packets of noodles valued at D700, half carton of rose milk valued at D350, a packet of pen valued at D150, a packet of chewing gum valued at D180, a carton of milk valued at D700, boxes of matches valued at D150, tins of soft drinks valued at D1000, Lana juice valued at D300, a carton of spaghetti valued at D700 have yet to be recovered. 

The unrecovered items were valued at D17,805, being the properties of Bubacarr Ndong.

Inspector E. Ceesay, prosecuting applied for adjournment to enable him to present the first prosecution witness. His application was granted and the matter was consequently adjourned to 2December 2024.

Presiding magistrate K.B Sambou granted bail to each of the accused in the sum of D50,000.00 and they must have aGambian surety, who shall depose to an affidavit of means.
