The Department of Strategic Policy and Delivery (DSPD) under the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) and its stakeholders organized a two-day internal validation workshop for The Gambia Government Policy Framework Study Report.
The two-day synergy was held recently at Banjul City Council’s (BCC) conference hall.
The Policy Framework Study Report was to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the policymaking landscape, and processes in The Gambia and establish an evidence baseline to support the development of the National Policy Framework.
If it passes final external validation, the policy will guide government-wide policy processes, including policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation, as well as the mainstream use of evidence and data. This will also ensure that government actions are coherent, comprehensive, and coordinated.
The National Policy Framework is a strategic Priority 1 under Outcome 2.8 of the Governance Reforms Pillar in the RF-NDP (2023-2027), which calls for a framework to harmonize policy formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation (RF-NDP, 2023).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director of the Policy Analysis Unit at the Department of Strategic Policy and Delivery (DSPD) under the Ministry of Public Service, Mr. Njaga Gaye, expressed appreciation to the participants for their large turnout to attend the workshop.
According to him, policies need to be standardized while emphasizing that every policy needs to align with the country’s policy framework once it is developed.
Mr. Gaye informed participants that the Ministry of Public Service is planning to come up with a standardized policy framework for the entire civil service.
“We are here with our ministry’s key stakeholders, and after this internal validation, we will expose the report for external validation whereby more stakeholders wil be invited to take part,” Mr. Gaye informed.
