Lamin Ceesay, yesterday, Wednesday 23rd October appeared before Magistrate K.B Sambou of the Brikama Magistrate Court on charges of obtaining money by false pretence in return for a visa.
The prosecution charged the accused person with “obtaining money by false pretence” Contrary to Section 288 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Volume 3 Laws of The Gambia.
The Inspector General of Police was represented by Corporal 6496 I. Touray while the accused was not represented.
The indictment alleged that Lamin Ceesay on the 24th day of September 2024, at Gunjur village, Kombo South, West Coast Region in the Republic of The Gambia, with intent to defraud obtained the sum of D60,000.00 from Lamin Fatty and Buba Suwareh with the pretext that he will secure them European visas, which representation he knew to be false or untrue, thereby committed an offense. Lamin denied the charge and pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution made no objections to bail for the accused but applied for an adjournment to enable it to secure its PW1 to testify.
The court granted the application and the matter was adjourned to the 2nd day of December 2024.
Magistrate K.B. Sambou granted the accused person bail in the sum of D100,000.00 with one Gambian surety to guarantee his condition of bail.
