By: Isatou Sarr

Rohey Malick Lowe, the Mayor of Banjul, has said that women’s representation in decision-making is crucial in achieving development targets.

She called on all to recognize the pivotal role advocacy plays in shaping policies that empower women.

“Women’s equal participation in political and public life is essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. We all must not be spectators but active participants to enable the change we desire. Together, we can create a ground for support that amplifies women’s voices and positions as leaders in their communities and beyond,” she remarked at the forum organized by TANGO on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, Bijilo.

Commenting further, she said the organized training will help participants enhance their understanding of political party dynamics in sharing impactful messages that underscore the importance of women in leadership, and the commitment to this course she said is quite commendable.

“However, data shows that women are underrepresented at all levels of decision-making worldwide and that achieving gender parity in political life is far off,” she stated.
