Court Issues Order forRemand of Assailant At Mile II

Magistrate Thomas Touray of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court has issued an order for the remand of a certainAdama Sanneh, who was yesterday arraigned beforehim for assault, causing actual bodily harm.

According to the particulars of the offense, Adama Sanneh on or about 2 October 2024, wilfully and unlawfully assaulted one Suntu Janneh by hitting her on her right hand with a stick, causing her actual bodily harm.

Adama admitted guilt by saying: “Yes, I hit her until she sustained injuries on her body.’’

Narrating the facts of the matter, the prosecution Sergeant Baldeh said: “It happened on the 2nd day of October around 7:30 in Kotu while the victim was in her house, ironing her kids’ school uniforms. After she finished, she went outside the compound and met with the accused person, carrying stones that he was throwing on a wall. She tried advising him to stop throwing stones on walls because it is not safe but the accused refused and started insulting her and ended up hitting her right hand with a stick.”

“The victim reported the matter at the Manjai Police Station and was escorted by the police to the hospital,where she was treated and discharged but was also asked to be reporting daily,” narrated prosecutor Baldeh. 

He also revealed that the medical certificate for her injuries was not yet out and asked for an adjournment to enable him to tender the said medical certificate. This was granted by Magistrate Touray and he ordered for the remand of Adama at the Mile 2 Prisons until 12November 2024, when judgment will be delivered in the matter.
