EFFA/Sankung Sillah FC defeated Celtic in a penalty shoot-out in the ongoing wave-sponsored knockout preliminary rounds of the Serekunda West Sports Development Association’s summer Nawettan
EFFA/Sankung Sillah FC and Celtic FC played out a highly contested affair with both teams crafting numerous goalscoring chances, but could not utilise any to a goal.
The hard-fought ended in a stalemate. It was decided from a post-match shootout in a 5-4 trailer in favour of EFFA/Sankung Sillah FC.
During the post-match interview, Modou Lamin Sanyang, the head coach of EFFA Sankung Sillah, expressed his delight at the victory. He acknowledged his undesirable start to the season, but they are going back to the training ground and rectified their mistakes. “We will try to do well so that we can play up to the final. That’s our desire for the knockout,” he noted.
The head coach admitted that something that has been disturbing them since day one is that they always crafted goalscoring chances, but taking those opportunities becomes their problem. “We worked on it during our training, but it’s persisting. We will work harder on this issue before our next game,” he added.
This reporter was not privileged to hear from the head coach of the losing Celtic FC side after the game.
