The experts that Jah Oil Cement Factory reportedly engaged in getting to the bottom of the shrinkage of its 50% cement bag would also reportedly look into the issue of sabotage as a probable cause.
Sources close to the company said experts from Turkey have been mobilized lately to establish what led to the reported loss of some kilos from its cement bags labeled 50kg.
The sources said Jah Oil suspects that the reduction may be orchestrated by the company’s rivals in the informal cement sector.
The Cement Importers’ Alliance of The Gambia recently convened a press conference during which they told journalists that Jah Oil has delivered some 50kg bags of cement that fell short of the right quantity.
The company has yet to admit or deny any wrongdoing but some members of the society smelt the rat. They suspected the company of deliberately reducing the content of its 50kg cement bag.
A source in the inner circle of Jah Oil, however, told this reporter that shrinkage may also be due to a technical issue.
However, some members of the greater public and the business community were unconvinced.
“Why couldn’t the company detect the issue until it was raised by members of the public? Interesting, isn’t it?” contended a Gambian business operator.
Meanwhile, Jah Oil has reportedly opened a “forensic” investigation into the issue and the outcome is being eagerly-awaited in lots of quarters.
