An alleged accused, Kebba Jallow, was yesterday in the dock at the Kanifing Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Thomas Touray for obtaining money by pretense contrary to section 288 of the Criminal Code Cap 10. 01 Volume 3 Laws of The Gambia 2009

According to the particulars of his offence, Kebba Jallow did on or about the 30th day of May 2024, at Bakoteh in The Kanifing Municipality of The Republic of The Gambia pretense with the intent to defraud, one Modou Camara by obtaining the sum of one Hundred Thousand Dalasi (D100,000:00) with the pretext that you will secure a motor vehicle mark JEEP 2011 MODEL TYPE for him from Canada. A representation he knew or believed to be false, thereby committed an offence.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge sheet was read to him in a language he claimed to understand. He said ”I don’t accept, it is not true.”

At this juncture, Enna Jallow Chief Inspector who announced her appearance for IGP sought an adjournment to secure her witnesses in court and without raising objection to his bail.

Magistrate Thomas Touray in his ruling said since the Chief Inspector didn’t object to the bail of the accused, the court therefore granted bail to the accused in the sum of One hundred Fifty Thousand Dalasi (D150,000:00) with two Gambian Civil Servant sureties who shall deposit their valid national identity card or passport to swear into affidavit of means.

The case was then adjourned to Thursday the 14th of November 2024 for hearing.
