GID Intercepts Migrant Boat at Bakau

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), on Sunday, October 27th, intercepted a boat on the coast of Bakau, Kanifing Municipality, which was en route to the European continent.

A total of 15 ‘would be’ migrants were intercepted, including women and a minor.

Inspector Siman Lowe, the GID Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to The Voice newspaper when contacted for comments on the saga.

“On Sunday, the 27th of October 2024, between 21:00 hrs and 22:00 hrs, based on a tip-off, the West Coast Region border patrol team with support from the Kanifing Municipal patrol team carried out an interception operation headed by the coordinator of Border Patrol Unit of GID at Bakau Cape Point. During this operation, 15 would-be migrants notably 14 Gambians and 1 Senegalese national among them 12 males, 3 females, and 1 minor were intercepted. The would-be migrants were escorted to Tanji for processing,” Inspector Lowe narrated. 

It would be recalled that earlier this month, GID had intercepted 76 irregular migrants at Barra and Gunjur-Sambuya, which included 3 women and 3 minors.
