Erejang FC defeated Kaw Tally FC in a penalty shootout in the ongoing Wave Knockout Preliminary Rounds of the Serekunda West Sports Development Association Summer Nawattan.
Both teams played out a nail-biting goalless draw after extra time with both teams not taking advantage of the many chances that were created.
Patrick Sambou, head coach of Erejang, maintained that he is pleased with his work considering that the game was their opponent’s last hope for a trophy this season as they had already lost the league.
“It was a tough game and I am happy we won at the end of the day, we had many chances but failed in capitalizing on them,” he lamented.
Sambou went on to thank the local community and the organizers for doing a good job with this year’s tournament.
“This year is very good because last year we were complaining about the football pitch but this year, the pitch is better and the fans behaved well,” he stated.
Madi Janneh, head coach of Kaw Tally, blamed his side’s poor showings on inexperience, also pointing out the number of chances created by his team.
“It’s pure hard luck because we used to score quite a lot of goals but in this game, our luck failed us. We just have to go home and prepare for next year, and I must add a big congratulations to Erajang and wish them good luck because they deserved their victory.
