The trial of the editor-in-chief of The Voice Mr.Musa Sheriff and freelance editor Momodou Justice Darboe is set to open today at the KanifingMagistrates’ Court.
The Gambia Police Force(GPF) charged the duo with “false publication and broadcasting” over an article published by The Voice newspaper, regarding President Adama Barrow’s reported succession plan.
The prosecution alleged that Sheriff and Darboe on or about 23 September 2024, at Kanifing and diverse places in the Republic of The Gambia, without any lawful excuse or authority, wilfully published a news titled: “President Barrow Chooses Muhammed Jah As Successor As Presidential Candidate for 2026 Election’’, knowing or having no reason to believe that the said publication or news was true thereby committed an offence.
They vehemently denied the charges.
Counsels Lamin S. Camara and Lamin J. Darboeare representing the accused while the Inspector General of Police was represented by Commissioner Abdoulie Colley, Deputy Commissioner Malang Jarju and Corporal 7048 A.Y. Bojang.
