Court Orders Eviction of Nigerian Lady from UTG Campus

A 39-year-old Nigerian lady Safin Williams wassentenced to a fine of D25,000.00 in default to serve twoyears imprisonment for possession of 283 wraps of prohibited drug and she was also ordered to vacate the UTG Faraba Bantang campus.

Narrating the facts of the matter, prosecution officer Inspector Sanna Camara said: “It happened on the 19th day of October, 2024, when DLEAG officers from Brikama station in collaboration with immigration officers from the same station went to the university campus at Faraba Bantang, acting on a tip-off. Upon their arrival,they went to the house of the accused, introduced themselves and conducted a search. A multiple-coloredbag was found[therein] and it contained 283 wraps of suspected cannabis.” The prosecution said the bag was placed inside a refrigerator and that there were bundlesthat contained sticks of Cannabis. 

“The accused admitted to owning the recovered drugs. She was arrested and taken to Brikama DLEAG office, where her statements were obtained and she was charged. The 24-hour daily report was also preparedand on the 22nd of October, she was escorted to Bijilofor weighment,” adduced the prosecution. 

According to Inspector Camara, the drugs weighed 1kg and 600g, saying samples were extracted and sent to the lab for analysis. 

“On the 24th day of October 2024, an analytical report was issued confirming the drugs to be Cannabis,” he added.

Safin Williams accepted the facts as narrated by the prosecution.

Magistrate I.O Njie, presiding, said: “The accused person Safin Williams is convicted upon her own plea of guilt and her acceptance of the facts as narrated by the prosecutor.

“The accused is convicted for possession of prohibited drugs contrary to section 35 (C) of the Drug Control Act (2024) as amended. Considering the facts that the accused person pleaded guilty to the charge, that she did not waste the court’s time, she is a single mother of three, is remorseful of her actions and that she is a first-time offender, I shall sentence her to a fine of D25,000.00 in default to serve two years imprisonment. The convict is ordered to vacate the university campus forthwith.”
