The Chairman of the Kerewan Area Council(KAC) recently organized a two-day capacity development training for 75 Yai Kompinmembers.

The training, among others, focused on soap-making to enhance skills development and income generation and it was held in the provincial town of Farafenni in the North Bank Region.

The skills gaps among women showcase the need for development partners and philanthropists to enhance skills acquisition.

The KAC chair Papa Tunkara said the two-daytraining was designed to empower women and contribute to poverty reduction, noting that it was intended to help the participants become self-reliant.

He thanked the women for their commitment and courage in acquiring skills that would transform lives.

Participants Sainabou Ceesay of Farafenni Mauritani and Sally Touray of Farafenni Sanchaba thanked Mr.Tunkara for the foresight and acknowledged that the training would contribute to bridging the skills gapamong the Yai Kompins.

The participants said the training on soap-making would promote health and hygiene. The women said there “is ready market for their products” and reiterated that capacity development is fundamental to accelerating socioeconomic development.

Both Sainabou Ceesay and Sally Touray thanked the National Assembly Member for Illiasa constituency Sankung Dampha and Ward Councilor Malick Samba for their “invaluable” support to the development of women and youths.
