Communication Officer Cadres Are Created in Gov’t for Democratic Tendencies, Says Minister Ceesay

The Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services explained that President Adama Barrow created Communication Officer positions within the Ministries for the democratic tendencies of his government.

Dr. Ismaila Ceesay was speaking during a five-day training workshop attended by the Government Communication Officers on Social Media Management held at the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) conference hall along Bertil Harding highway, which ends on Friday, November 1, 2024.

“President Barrow created these positions in a bid to inform the citizenry about the government policies because we live in exciting times, characterized by diversity and advances in technology which continue to bring us into contact with more people than ever before,” Minister Ceesay explained.

He commended President Barrow for creating the positions of the Communication Officer cadres in all ministries in order to provide timely and credible information to the public from their respective institutions.

According to him, the emergence of social media has profoundly changed the manner and speed in which information is disseminated with far-reaching consequences.

As a Communication Officer, he added, “You are required to adjust to this trend so that you can do your work effectively.

He explained that those in the information and communication sectors must be responsive to the needs of the ever-changing environment in the communication arena.

Minister Ceesay described social media as an integral part of contemporary society, profoundly transforming communication, social behavior, political engagements, and cultural norms.

He commended the Department of Information Services for leading the training while thanking Fatiman & Co Ltd for taking up the challenge to conduct the training.

Madam Isatou Davies Ann, Director of the Department of Information Services, in her closing remarks, acknowledged the presence of the Communication Officers throughout the training session. The training provider, Fatiman & Co Ltd presented Certificates of Completion on Social Media Management to each participant.
