By: Dawda M. Jallow

Businessman Danny Iswac on Monday testified at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court that his delivery man Ousman Sowe had severally failed to keep records of money paid to him for goods given to him for delivery.

Prosecutors have charged Ousman with the alleged offence of obtaining money by pretence.

In his testimony yesterday, Iswacexplained that on a couple of occasions, the goods that were given to Ousman to sell went missing and that the money was not entered into the records. Inspector C.B Jallow, prosecuting asked how records were taken when the accused was given goods to deliver or sell and Iswac replied that they have a special teller, who took the company records.

“What is the monetary equivalent of the goods in question? asked prosecutor Jallow and Danny replied that there were two transactions, adding that the first transaction involved D1.3M while the second one involved D400, 000.00.

Inspector Jallow further asked how the second transaction was affected to which, the witness replied that the goods were given to Ousman to sell and that he was entitled to some profits from the goods. He further narrated: “One day, the accused came to my office and told me that he wanted a private meeting with me. I gave him a go-ahead. He told me that he had a sick patient and monies from the sale of the goods were sent to that sick person in Senegal.’’

Earlier on, Inspector Jallow asked Iswac about how long he had been in business and he replied that he hasbeen in business for 20 years now.

“How long have you known the accused?” asked the prosecution officer. Iswac responded that he knew Ousman for ten years as he was his employee.

“Can you tell the court what was his responsibility in your company?” the prosecution further asked.

“His responsibilities in my company were delivering and selling,” replied Iswac.

The case, which was presided over by magistrate Thomas Touray, was adjourned to 28 November 2024, forthe continuation of Iswac’s testimony.
