Court Orders Remand of Two Women in Mile II

Magistrate Thomas Touray of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Courton Tuesday ordered the remand in custody of Isatou Sunbundu and Fatoumatta Sunbundu at the State Central Prison, pending the determination of their case.

The duo was arraigned on two counts of common assault and causing actual bodily harm.

According to the details of count one, Isatou Sunbunduwilfully and unlawfully assaulted one Maimuna Camara by holding her neck, thereby committed an offence. The incident allegedly happened on 2 October 2024, at Latri-Kunda German. 

On count two, Fatoumatta Sunbundu is alleged to havewilfully and unlawfully assaulted one Maimuna Camara by hitting her with a small wooden bench on her right eye on 2 October 2024.

Narrating the facts of the matter, Inspector Lewentin Gibba,who represented the Inspector General of Police in the casenarrated that the incident happened on 2 October 2024, at Latri-Kunda while the victim Maimuna Camara was in her room.

“The first accused person, Isatou Sunbundu, went to the victim’s room to fix the electrical wire that was defaulted which both the victim and the accused are sourcing electricity. The victim told the accused that she has already called an electrician to come and fix the electrical wire, who is already on his way. The first accused person refused to understand and she started insulting her to the extent of grabbing the victim’s neck. That’s the time the victim’s uncle Modou Colley came and separated them and took the victim inside her room,’’ narrated the prosecutor. She further narrated that the daughter of the first accused, Kadijatou Sunbundu, who did not even know what transpired, started insulting the victim. 

“The victim was locked inside her room and she was standing near the window and that’s the time the second accused Fatoumatta Sunbundu took a wooden bench and threw it to the victim, which hit her on the left eye and she sustained injuries,’’ said the prosecutor. The prosecution added that the victim reported the matter to Latri-Kunda police station and was escorted to Serekunda General Hospital, where she was treated and given a medical report. 

When the victim was asked if her health was improving, she confirmed that “she’s now getting better”.

Both Isatou and Fatoumatta pleaded guilty and magistrate Thomas Touray, therefore, ruled that a short date will be taken to deliver the judgement and ordered that the accused be kept at the Mile II until 11 November 2024, when judgement will be delivered in their case.
